Plastering Services FAQ

Sagging ceilings is a common issue even with relatively modern housing. There are a number of possible causes for a sagging ceiling, and may indicate a problem that needs correction. If you have a termite problem, they can destroy the wooden structures of your house including ceilings and caused it sagged. In this case, after termite treatment, we can remove the sagging boards and replace it with new plasterboards.  If it’s sagging because it got wet, it is likely caused by broken pipes or water leaking from the roof. After leaking is fixed, we highly recommended to replace it with new plaster and plasterboards to achieve a new smooth professional finish.

Cracked Plaster is probably the most common problem people notice with their old plaster walls. Some cracks are purely cosmetic and do not indicative of a bigger problem.  Vertical hairline cracks in plaster walls are common and are cosmetic in nature. They are small that you can barely fit a fingernail, and are usually due to poor adhesion of plaster and/or temperature changes. But some cracks such as horizontal cracks and those wider than 1/8 inch may signal more serious problem. It could be caused by poorly-designed or constructed, water damages, or structural issues.

It depends on the type of job and the agreement between you and the plasterer. If you have wallpapers and tiles on the walls or ceiling, they need to be removed as plaster will not stick to it. Make sure you are clear on what is being plastered and what preparations are your responsibility.

It will help the plasterers to work faster and more efficiently if the room is clear with minimum furniture, and have no obstructions to the work area. Access to water and electricity is also required at your property. We will bring dust sheets and building paper to cover and protect flooring and other fixtures.

The answer will depend on the conditions of the room, such as temperature and humidity level. Ideally, the longer you wait the better. If you paint the new plaster before it is completely dry and set, this may create problems in the future. When the plaster changes colour from dark red to a pinkish colour, it is ready for painting. In general, we recommend to wait at least a week.

Having a suspended ceiling can be an attractive addition to a room. Suspended ceiling offers more options for interior decoration and designs for your home and commercial property. It conceals structural framing, duct work, pipes, electrical wires, light fittings while allows easy access for maintenance. It can absorb sounds, therefore enhance the soundproofing of the room, making it ideal for working spaces or high rises and homes with multiple residents. With insulation, suspended ceiling can increase household energy efficiency or promoting a more energy efficient workplace.

To solve the hygienic concerns and eliminate the development of bacteria and molds for extremely humid environments, such as bathrooms and kitchens, suspended ceilings with anti-microbial and/or moisture resistant treated can be installed.
